Reins of Hope is dedicated to providing individuals with physical, mental, or developmental disabilities the opportunity to connect with a horse and experience the many benefits. Our equine-assisted services help provide individuals hope, the opportunity to build courage, increase dignity, and improve physical fitness while connecting with horses.
Each session, a participant is paired with a horse and we strive to have a minimum of 3 volunteers per participant per session. This consists of 1 horse leader who helps keep our participants and volunteers safe by maintaining the horse and two side walkers who walk beside the horse / rider for support and encouragement.
All of our horses are tested prior to use in our programs.

A parent or guardian must complete and submit ALL aspects of the application process by the deadline for the chosen program.
A current Physician's Referral will need to be obtained as part of the application process.
**If the rider has Down's Syndrome, the referring physician will need to rule out Atlanto-Axial Dislocation Condition via a diagnostic x-ray. Due to health risks, an individual whom has the presence of Atlanto-Axial Dislocation would not qualify for our horse back riding programs.
By applying, you agree to make every effort to attend 1x/wk for 1 hr each week for the duration of the program.
Upon Board Review of all applicants following the application deadline, an email notification will be sent out regarding program selection. This occurs approximately 2 weeks prior to the the first session.
If an individual is not selected as a participant, has all required paperwork on file, and meets our requirements, they may be placed on our Wait-List. This means that should a participant be unable to attend a session, you may be contacted and offered to participate for a session(s). Contact would occur as early as possible following notification from a participant that they are unable to attend.
